Matthias Kirschner studied Medicine at the University of Muenster in Germany. For his dissertation he investigated the in vitro toxicity of cell cycle inhibitors against a panel of paediatric tumour cells. He is currently a resident in general psychiatry and has a special interest in psychotic and substance abuse disorders. His scientific work focusses on the interplay between motivation, emotion and cognition in patients with addictive and psychotic disorders. Currently he is conducting a real-time fMRI study investigating brain-psychopathology relationships in the reward network across disease categories.
