Matthias Kirschner studied Medicine at the University of Muenster in Germany. For his dissertation he investigated the in vitro toxicity of cell cycle inhibitors against a panel of paediatric tumour cells. He is currently a resident in general psychiatry and has a special interest in psychotic and substance abuse disorders. His scientific work focusses on the interplay between motivation, emotion and cognition in patients suffering from negative symptoms. Currently he is conducting a fMRI study investigating brain-psychopathology relationships across disease categories and across a continuum from manifest non-affective psychosis over an at-risk state to persons without a risk state.
