People deal constantly with regulating ones emotions – may it be on purpose or unconsciously. Therefore, different emotion regulation strategies are used. In some psychiatric disorders, such as major depression, the ability to regulate ones emotions successfully is hindered. The research group uses neuroimaging techniques to investigate the localization and mode of action of emotion regulation. Based on the gained insight through basic research, it is a medium-term objective to improve the individualized psychiatric treatment of one’s emotion regulation deficits.
